July 14th 1864 Dear Sister I take this favourable opertunity to let you know that I am well at present and hope those fiew lines may find you the same I received your letter of June 17th yesturday it seams to run in my mind that I have received a letter from you and answerd it since that date though I may be mistaken and tharefore I will scribble you a fiew lines you wanted to know in your letter weather the rebbels holds the ground that we fought on the day that Enos was misen they did the last I hurd from their I suppose you all no that we lost over [page 2] one half of our men that went in on the charge and they most of them fell close to the rebbel trenches I cant explain eavrey thing to you Enos mite have laid down wen he found that we was repulsed instid of retreaten off the field their was two men of company H and Enos that cant be acounted for Cap Lewis laid on the field till after dark when he come in our company was on the left and company F was on the right and that throad Enos and mee so for appart that I couldent see after him the way that we come to be on the left was our company was taken out before the regt [page 3] was and deploid as skermishers to drive in the rebbel sharp shooters and wen the regt come in on a charge we ralied on the left this is about all that I can tell you about the butchery it wont do for us to get down harted for this and we wont I must bring this to a close no more please write soon G.
