It is intended to provide summative information about the program’s effectiveness. Information related to parent understanding of the importance of literacy, parent involvement and school relations, student achievement, student health and wellness, student discipline, and parent and student drug awareness is discussed. To gather this data, parent surveys, student focus groups, and school records were used.Item Project C.H.A.N.C.E.: Interim Evaluation Report, Year 2(Delaware Education Research & Development Center, 2001-11) Ackerman, Cheryl M.; Robinson, Ophelia; Benkstein, Polly; Giancola, SusanThis evaluation report, prepared by the Delaware Education Research and Development Center, includes an accounting of the second year of Project C.H.A.N.C.E. implementation. Information related to student achievement, student behavioral indices, technology literacy, and program satisfaction is discussed. The evaluation results indicate that the Project C.H.A.N.C.E. program is well thought of by students and parents, and that teachers are seeing an improvement in some classroom behaviors for students participating in the program. Based on comparisons of participants and non-participants, impact on reading and writing performance was not seen during year two of implementation. However, district test scores and grades indicate improvement throughout the academic year. To look more closely at program impact, it would be appropriate to focus on students who have participated in the program since its inception.Item Project Safe Pathways: Interim Evaluation Report, Year 2(Delaware Education Research & Development Center, 2001-10) Ackerman, Cheryl M.; Robinson, Ophelia; Benkstein, PollyThis evaluation report, prepared by the Delaware Education Research and Development Center, includes an accounting of the second year of Project S.A.F.E. Pathways implementation. Information related to student achievement, student behavioral indices, technology literacy, and program satisfaction is discussed. The results of this evaluation indicate that parents and students are both satisfied with the program. In most instances student attitudes and behaviors are positive, with the exception of the middle/high school students, and school attendance and suspension rates. While DSTP scores do not reflect improvement for program participants, Lightspan assessments clearly show improvement for elementary students in math and reading.Item Project Safe Pathways: Three-Year Cohort Report(Delaware Education Research & Development Center, 2002-07) Ackerman, Cheryl M.This evaluation report, prepared by the Delaware Education Research and Development Center, includes a description of a group of students who participated in the Safe Pathways program since it started in 1999. Information related to student characteristics, student achievement, student behavioral and attitudinal indices, and parent involvement is presented and discussed. The data examined in this study describe three-year cohort participants from several angles. Student-surveys, teacher surveys, achievement data, and school records paint a somewhat mixed picture of their educational experience, and the impact the Safe Pathways program has had on long-term participants. Both students and teachers reported that the program has had some positive impact on student behaviors and attitudes. Achievement data were either insufficient to comment on, or indicated a small change over time for the three-year cohort. School records showed some consistent and differing patterns of absences and suspensions for elementary and secondary students. This report deals with child obesity and teacher recruitment & retention.Item Public Opinion of Education: Early Care And Education(Delaware Education Research & Development Center, 2005-06) Ackerman, Cheryl M.Public opinion in Delaware is divided concerning funding priorities for early care and education. While the greatest support is for funding kindergarten programs (40%), about one-fourth of residents chose either preschool or funding both preschool and kindergarten equally as their first priority.
