Abstract
En este artículo analizo una Congregación de Señoras de Córdoba que cumplía tareas asistencialistas con las socias pobres. La hipótesis principal sostiene que si bien no se trataba de mujeres que se autodefinieran feministas, lo cierto es que a través de su trabajo, desarrollaban una ciudadanía social, hecho que probablemente, de modo paulatino, coadyuvó a que ellas mismas comenzaran a percibirse como sujetos que ejercían y necesitaban ejercer su tarea más allá del ámbito doméstico exclusivamente. No eran solo mujeres de la élite, sino también integrantes de la clase media que la modernización fue incrementando durante estas décadas. Abstract: This article analyses a Catholic women’s community in Córdoba that assisted poor women in different ways. The principal hypothesis is that even though the women did neither perceive themselves as feminists nor that their work implied a political role in the public space, the fact is that their actions developed a civil society. Their activities gradually led them to perceive themselves as agents who had to exercise their work beyond the exclusively domestic space. They included not only women of the elite but also many from the middle class that was growing due to increasing modernization.
