Abstract
Terrorism is a growing concern of the 21st century but is it an increasing
phenomenon? This study examines the trends in frequency of terrorism events
throughout the United States from 1999-2011 compiled in the Global Terrorism
Database (GTD). Drawing on 2000 and 2010 decennial census data and using previous
methods from criminology and homicide literature, this research will determine
whether certain city-level structural variables are correlated with higher frequencies of
terrorism events. This unique approach to analyzing terrorism events introduced a new
perspective and found correlations related to criminological literature.
