AbstractThe Medicaid program plays an important role in facilitating and financing the treatment of type 2 diabetes in America. This thesis uses Medicaid claims data from the state of Delaware to investigate three specific concerns regarding type 2 diabetes and Medicaid: the prevalence of diabetes among Medicaid participants, the quality of care received by Medicaid patients with diabetes, and disparities in diabetes prevalence and treatment quality across Medicaid participant subgroups. The results are discussed in the context of existing research, followed by a review of promising Medicaid strategies to better prevent and treat type 2 diabetes. The findings in this thesis offer a preliminary glimpse into the health needs and experiences of Delaware’s Medicaid participants with type 2 diabetes. This can help inform Delaware’s ongoing efforts to transform its health care system and improve the health of underserved populations.en_US
